GB2VJD Victory in Japan Day, at the Old Needles Battery, Tuesday 15th August 2006.

Operating from the Club Caravan, we eventually got on the air at approximately 10.30hrs. The morning, mostly worked on 20 Mtrs., proved to be a little slow initially but with the long skip conditions it enabled us to work as far a field as Canada. Later changed to 40 Mtrs. when things really livened up and we were soon working a considerable 'pile up' for the rest of the time, fortunately too, most stations worked were from the UK, Ireland and the near continent, possibly attracted not only be the Special Event call-sign but the unique WAB Square, SZ28.

During the course of the afternoon, the wind began to swing round to the North West and freshened considerably, to such an extent that it became a danger that we could be soon operating ' Maritime Mobile' after being blown into the sea ! Due to the worsening of the WX and with the start of the caravan awning beginning to break up the station had to go QRT at about 16.50hrs, much earlier than we had hoped. Unfortunately, we still had many stations still calling us that were never able to get through.

Despite all, we worked 98 stations and had a very enjoyable time - hopefully bodes well for the coming weekend (19th/20th August 2006) when we will be operating GB0NOB Weekend of the Seas,                at the same location, Colin, M0GUN

This is one of many special event stations put on by members of the
