Brickfields Amateur Radio Society Isle of Wight County Award. Isle of Wight County Award for Radio Amateurs & SWL's The Initiative: This was an initiative by members of the Brickfields Amateur Radio Society in the autumn of 1992: Early in 1993 the Society were delighted to receive the kind permission of the Chairman of the Isle of Wight County Council to incorporate the official County Coat of Arms in the certificate, thus creating a distinctive feature in this attractive document emanating from England's biggest Island. The Award: Text of this personalised award signifies the fact it is, "...made in recognition of achievement... in demonstrating skill and ability when operating a radio station... ". To personalise the award, the recipient has their name and call-sign (Or registered SWL No.) inscribed, together with a list of the fixed licenced amateur stations located on the island with whom radio contact was established in order to qualify for this prestigious award: The accompanying letter to the recipient also provides a detailed heraldic description of the Coat of Arms. The Certificate: A purpose designed parchment style A-4 size (21 x 29.7) certificate has the personalised text monochrome printed but the Coat of Arms is coloured to accord with the distinguishing mark of the local authority. Qualifying Requirements: Since the 1st January 1985, either : - a) H.F.; Verified radio contact with 5 licenced amateurs residing on the Isle of Wight, plus one contact with the headquarters of the B.A.R.S. b) VHF/UHF; Verified contact with 10 licenced amateurs residing on the Isle of Wight, plus one contact with the headquarters or the B.A.R.S. c) PACKET; as above appropriate to the band used. d) Short wave listeners; Readability & signal reports of both stations in QSO, together with date, time & frequency used. Reports must be common to a range of H.F. or VHF/UHF bands, as appropriate. Verification: A claimants log extract signed as correct to requirements, either by another holder of a current amateur radio licence, or a registered SWL; Alternately, QSL cards - which will be returned. Cost: Includes postage of the certificate and the heraldic description of the County Crest together in a stiff card-backed envelope: The United Kingdom & Ireland, £3.75, other countries, $6.00 USA. Changes: The Society reserve the right to revise any matter relating to this award without advance publication of such change.
