Lighthouse Weekend, Needles GB0NLH, 15/16 August 2009 Needles Point Lighthouse, Lighthouse number ENG 0067 LH 2985 WAB SZ 28 IOTA EU120 LOC IO90FP.
Report by David G0VZV We worked 170 on 2m FM and 550 on HF making a total of 720 altogether. This is easily a new club record for the number of contacts made, although this was not the purpose of the event. We also worked about 30 Lighthouses, mainly around the UK. To cap it all Dave 2E0FRB worked VK7 on 40m on Sunday morning (and nearly wet his pants with excitement). Ops were Dave 2E0FRB, David G0VZV, Mark 2E0ZMB & Alan G0NTH. WX was rather windy and drizzly on Saturday but fine on Sunday. We slept in the caravan overnight and Dave complained about my snoring. I complained about his. We were kept awake by the creaking and clunking of the masts outside and sleeping condx were cramped but we made it through and started operating again at 7am. FM condx were especially good with stations worked as far north as Liverpool and west to Cornwall. HF was mainly on 40m and 80m and we had a pile up much of the time. Our special thanks go to David Metcalfe of the NT for allowing us to operate adjacent to the Black Knight Rocket Site over the weekend. Being 410 ft above sea level & surrounded on three sides by the sea it is no wonder we got out so well. We hope to return next year to try and beat our record. It'll be a tough one to beat. 73 David G0VZV QSLs will be sent via the bureau to all stations worked. Please note that although we enjoy receiving QSL cards we do not require them. SWLs or operators requiring direct exchange should send a SAE via our club HQ G0BAR. with a S.A.E. direct to: Brickfields Amateur Radio Society, Newnham Road, Binstead, Nr Ryde, Isle of Wight, PO33 3TH
